Special ED

I was born and raised in the area between Reno, Nevada and Chilcoot, California. I graduated from the eighth grade along with nine other students from Long Valley Elementary School in Doyle, California. You can imagine the shock of attending Sparks High after being so rural. After graduating from Sparks, I attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho where I obtained an Associate in Elementary Education then transferred to Idaho State to work on my Bachelors.

In the meantime, I had met and married Robert Mickelson. We moved to Fallon, Nevada for employment reasons and my education was put on hold while I raised our five children, three girls and two boys. I had the opportunity to return to school when we moved back to Idaho and received a Bachelors in Arts from Idaho State and certification in K-8 General Education. After we moved to Elko in 2014, I enrolled in Great Basin to obtain additional certification in education through Great Basin’s Alternate Route to Certification. I will finish my certification in Special Education through them this year.

My hobbies include reading, sewing, and genealogy. I am currently working on learning to machine quilt. I am a lousy mountain biker but enjoy trying.

I have found great pleasure in working with the students at EIAA for the last two years and look forward to continuing to participate in their progress and learning.
